Kansas Speedway (Kansas City, Kan.) — Kyle Larson appeared to have lost the Cup race Sunday with 30 laps remaining when Chase Briscoe blew past him. But 23 laps later, Larson came back to not only win the race but also take control of The Chase with six races remaining. Larson, who went winless in 51 races before claiming two of the last three, increased his points lead from one […]

NASCAR Hall of Fame driver and broadcaster Darrell Waltrip will step back from the limelight and public appearances as he has been diagnosed with having cognitive issues that impact his personality. Here is the statement from Darrell, his wife Stevie and family: "We wanted to share a health update with all of Darrell’s friends and fans who have supported him throughout his racing career. NASCAR CEO Steve O’Donnell was clear when speaking about not penalizing Ryan Blaney and Carson Hocevar for their fight Saturday night at Bristol Motor Speedway. There would be no deduction in points and no fines issued. "We’re not going to encourage fighting, but what we are going to encourage is passion," he said on "Kevin Harvick’s Happy Hour" podcast Monday. So that begs the question: Is that possible? And what […]

NASCAR has no plans to penalize Carson Hocevar and Ryan Blaney for their fight Saturday night at Bristol Motor Speedway. NASCAR CEO Steve O’Donnell joined "Kevin Harvick’s Happy Hour" podcast on Monday to talk about the sport and he shared NASCAR's view of the fight when it comes to penalties. "We’re not going to encourage fighting, but what we are going to encourage is passion," O’Donnell said Monday in the […]

Bristol Motor Speedway (Bristol, Tenn.) — Carson Hocevar’s reaction to Ryan Blaney confronting him following the Cup race Saturday night appeared both natural and symbolic for Spire Motorsports. Hocevar didn’t let Blaney get the first punch. Instead, once Blaney grabbed him, Hocevar started swinging. Spire Motorsports has had to do a lot of that lately, trying to fight back against perceptions and allegations. The organization started in the 2019 season […]

Joey Logano could make me (and others) eat their words about whether he could win a championship this year. From eating words to Ryan Blaney eating some knuckles, it was a wild time at Bristol. And after three races, it seriously is time to wonder whether Denny Hamlin can recapture his mojo with the three-race intermediate-track swing that starts this weekend at Kansas Speedway. Here are my contender rankings after […]

Bristol Motor Speedway (Bristol, Tenn.) — After a mild-mannered 425 laps, the Bristol night race lived up to the hype. The last 75 laps were wild, as championship contenders crashed, punctuated by a post-race brawl. Fans will talk about the Carson Hocevar-Ryan Blaney fight for years to come, as Hocevar nailed Blaney in the face with a punch. "It makes you feel a little better for losing," Hocevar told me […]

Bristol Motor Speedway (Bristol, Tenn.) — The Hurricane apparently also knows how to throw a punch. Carson Hocevar belted Ryan Blaney when Blaney grabbed a hold of him after the race on Saturday night at Bristol, with Hocevar getting in two punches to Blaney. "I saw him and I was like, ‘OK, he’s moving pretty fast for a convo and then he grabbed me," Hocevar told me and other reporters […]

Bristol Motor Speedway (Bristol, Tenn.) — Ty Gibbs doesn’t just return to Bristol Motor Speedway with the memories of winning his first career Cup race back in April. He arrives with a car carrying the memory of Kyle Busch, the two-time NASCAR Cup champion who died suddenly in May. A long-time driver for M&Ms at Joe Gibbs Racing, Ty Gibbs will carry an M&Ms tribute scheme to Busch for the […]
